What ink does the SG500 use?

This listing includes a full set of Sawgrass SubliJet UHD inks — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black (31ml each). SubliJet UHD is engineered specifically for Sawgrass printers and produces vibrant, permanent, fade-resistant transfers on polyester and sublimation-coated substrates. Replacement ink is available in our SubliJet UHD collection.

Does sublimation work on cotton?

No. Standard sublimation — including SubliJet UHD — requires polyester or sublimation-coated surfaces to bond properly. On 100% cotton, the transfer will wash out or not adhere correctly. If you need to print on cotton or natural fabrics, Sawgrass offers the VersiFlex ink system as a separate product. See the SG500 VersiFlex Bundle.

Do I need a heat press to use the SG500?

Yes. The SG500 prints your design onto sublimation transfer paper, which is then heat-pressed onto your substrate. The heat press is not included with this system. If you need a recommendation based on what you're producing, contact us — our team can advise.

What software does the SG500 use, and is it free?

Sawgrass Creative Studio is the required software for all Sawgrass printers. It is free and cloud-based for all SG500 owners. Creative Studio manages color profiles, substrate presets, and the print queue — no third-party RIP software needed.

What size prints can the SG500 handle?

The SG500 supports media up to 8.5" x 14" using the standard paper tray, and up to 8.5" x 51" with the optional bypass tray. For wider output up to 11" x 17", see the SG1000.

Sawgrass provides a 3-year / 100,000 print warranty on SG500 printers ordered after October 1, 2025, along with lifetime technical support directly from Sawgrass.

Yes. Converted inkjet printers are standard office printers refilled with sublimation ink — they were never designed for the task. The SG500 is purpose-built for sublimation with factory color calibration, a print head engineered for sublimation ink, and automatic maintenance routines.
