SubliJet UHD works with polyester and sublimation-coated hard goods. Results are best on white or light-colored surfaces.

Substrates must be polyester or sublimation-coated to accept SubliJet UHD transfers. Cotton and natural fabrics require VersiFlex inks — see the SG1000 VersiFlex Bundle.

Is the SG1000 better than a converted inkjet printer for sublimation?

Yes. The SG1000 is purpose-built for sublimation, not converted from a standard inkjet. That means factory-calibrated color profiles, automatic maintenance routines, and a print head designed to handle sublimation ink without the reliability issues common to converted printers. For any business producing sublimation regularly, a purpose-built system pays for itself quickly in consistency and reduced waste.

What ink does the SG1000 use?

The SG1000 uses Sawgrass SubliJet UHD inks — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. SubliJet UHD is engineered specifically for Sawgrass printers and produces vibrant, permanent, fade-resistant transfers on polyester and sublimation-coated substrates. Replacement ink is available in our SubliJet UHD collection.

What's the difference between the SG500 and SG1000?

The key difference is media size. The SG500 prints up to 8.5" x 14" (or 8.5" x 51" with optional bypass tray); the SG1000 prints up to 11" x 17" (or 13" x 19" with optional bypass tray). The SG1000 is better suited for businesses that need gang sheet layouts, oversized transfers, or higher throughput. Both printers use the same SubliJet UHD inks and Sawgrass Creative Studio software.

Does sublimation work on cotton?

No. Standard sublimation — including SubliJet UHD — requires polyester or sublimation-coated surfaces to bond properly. On cotton, the transfer will wash out. For cotton and natural fiber printing, Sawgrass offers the VersiFlex ink system as a separate product. See the SG1000 VersiFlex Bundle if that's your use case.

Do I need a heat press to use the SG1000?

Yes. The SG1000 prints your design onto sublimation transfer paper, which is then heat-pressed onto your substrate. The heat press is not included with this system. If you need a heat press recommendation for your product mix, contact us — our team can advise based on what you're producing.

What software does the SG1000 use, and is it free?

Sawgrass Creative Studio is the required software for all Sawgrass printers. It is free and cloud-based for all SG1000 owners. Creative Studio manages color profiles, substrate presets, and the print queue — no third-party RIP software needed.

What warranty does the SG1000 include?

Sawgrass provides a 3-year / 100,000 print warranty on SG1000 printers ordered after October 1, 2025, along with lifetime technical support directly from Sawgrass.

Is this printer suitable for a production or commercial environment?

Yes. The SG1000 is designed for small-to-mid-size production environments — print shops, promotional products businesses, apparel decorators, and school or studio operations that need reliable, repeatable sublimation output at larger formats.
