VersiFlex Ink FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions customers ask before choosing VersiFlex inks.
✅ What is Sawgrass VersiFlex ink and how is it different from regular sublimation ink?
VersiFlex is a hybrid decorating ink system for Sawgrass SG500 & SG1000 printers that expands what you can decorate beyond traditional sublimation. Standard sublimation inks are mainly for polyester fabrics and polymer-coated blanks. VersiFlex is designed to work with specific transfer workflows so you can create stunning prints for a wider mix of surfaces—like cotton, wood, ceramic-coated items, and more—using the same printer platform.
🧩 What materials can you print on with VersiFlex inks?
When used as a complete system with compatible VersiFlex transfer papers and correct pressing settings, VersiFlex can be used for:
- Light-colored cotton & cotton blends
- Polyester and poly blends
- Wood (and other porous surfaces, depending on the workflow)
- Ceramic-coated and polymer-coated blanks (mugs, etc.)
- Other compatible surfaces supported by the VersiFlex workflow
Results depend on the transfer paper used, pressing temperature/time/pressure, and the surface type.
🔒 Which printers are compatible with VersiFlex inks?
VersiFlex inks are designed for the Sawgrass SG500 and Sawgrass SG1000 configured for the VersiFlex system. For best results, use a printer dedicated to VersiFlex—do not mix ink families in the same printer. Mixing ink types can cause contamination, color shifts, and reliability issues.
🧼 How durable are VersiFlex transfers on cotton fabrics?
VersiFlex transfers are built for strong durability when pressed correctly. Longevity depends on the workflow, fabric type, and wash care. For best wash performance on cotton:
- Wash inside out
- Use cold water
- Avoid harsh detergents/bleach
- Tumble dry low or hang dry when possible
Always follow the recommended pressing instructions for the specific VersiFlex paper/workflow you're using.
🌑 Do VersiFlex inks work on dark fabrics?
VersiFlex does not use white ink, so it performs best on white or light-colored fabrics. For darker garments, many creators use compatible garment-decoration methods (for example, applying prints to a light surface layer or using workflows designed for dark garments) depending on the product and desired finish.
🖤 Why doesn't the VersiFlex ink system include a black cartridge?
VersiFlex uses a Cyan + Magenta + Yellow + Expander setup instead of a traditional CMYK set. The printer creates dark tones (including "black") by combining the CMY inks (often called composite black). The Expander cartridge replaces a dedicated black cartridge and supports the VersiFlex transfer workflow across multiple surfaces and paper types.
