VersiFlex Heat Press Settings & Pressing Tips (Cotton, Fabric & Uncoated Wood)

A practical, shop-friendly guide to help you get clean transfers, strong bonding, and repeatable results with VersiFlex.

⚠️ Important Notice: Pressing time, temperature, and pressure can vary by heat press model, calibration, substrate type, thickness, and environmental conditions. This guide is provided for general informational purposes only and is intended as a starting point. Always perform test presses before final production. We are not responsible for damage to garments, substrates, or equipment resulting from incorrect settings, improper use, or variation in materials.

⚙️ Quick Settings (Most Common)

Use these as reliable starting points for VersiFlex Light projects. If your exact blank isn’t listed in your software, select the closest match and test.

Substrate Temp Time Pressure
👕 Cotton 375°F / 190°C 30 sec High (40 PSI)
🧵 Fabric Blends 375°F / 190°C 30 sec High (40 PSI)
🧤 Suede 375°F / 190°C 30 sec High (40 PSI)
🪵 Uncoated Wood 375°F / 191°C 30 sec Medium (30 PSI)
🧱 Unglazed Ceramic 375°F / 191°C 30 sec Medium (30 PSI)
🧪 Wet ink reminder: VersiFlex prints with wet ink. Print one page at a time and avoid stacking fresh prints to prevent smearing.

✅ Before You Start (Fast Checklist)

  • Pre-press fabric (5–10 sec) to remove moisture and flatten the surface.
  • Lint-roll cotton to remove fibers for sharper edges.
  • Use fresh blowout paper every press to help prevent ghosting and protect your press.
  • Light blanks look best (VersiFlex has no white ink).
  • Test first if your exact blank isn’t listed—choose the closest match and fine-tune.

🪵 Pressing on Uncoated Wood

Wood performance depends on porosity and full contact. For best bonding, use uncoated, flat wood and keep surfaces smooth and level.

✅ Best choices: softer woods like pine, spruce, cedar (often bond more easily).
🚫 Avoid: coated/varnished wood, warped pieces, glossy finishes.

Step-by-step

  1. Keep paper slightly larger than the wood on at least one side (easier peel).
  2. Place the wood on the printed transfer, then flip together onto the press.
  3. Press 375°F (191°C) for 30 sec at medium pressure.
  4. Hot peel immediately using a quick, steady motion (gloves recommended).
✨ If shiny lines appear: increase pressure slightly and test again.

🧵 Pressing on Fabric & Blends

Fabrics work best when they tolerate high heat and high pressure. For seams/zippers/buttons, use a pressing pillow for consistent contact.

Quick steps:
  1. Align fabric first, then align transfer. Tape if needed.
  2. Cover with fresh blowout paper.
  3. Press 375°F (190°C) for 30 sec at very high pressure.
  4. Hot peel immediately.

👕 Pressing on Cotton

Choose smooth, tightly woven 100% cotton for best detail and adhesion. Pre-wash (no fabric softener), lint-roll, and pre-press for cleaner results.

✅ Best cotton: combed cotton, cotton jersey (light to medium weight).
🚫 Avoid: pre-treated/coated cottons, waxed/repellent finishes, fabric softener residue.

Step-by-step

  1. Lint-roll + pre-press (5–10 sec).
  2. Transfer face down + cover with blowout paper.
  3. Press 375°F (190°C) for 30 sec at very high pressure.
  4. Hot peel immediately. If peeling is difficult, increase pressure slightly and retest.

🔁 Dual-Sided Cotton Shirt (Front & Back)

Treat each side as its own full press cycle and keep the press protected from wet ink.

Setting Value
🌡️ Temperature 375°F (190°C)
⏱️ Time 30 sec per side
🧱 Pressure High
  1. Print one page at a time (wet ink).
  2. Pre-press the shirt briefly.
  3. Press side 1 → hot peel immediately.
  4. Flip shirt; protect press with blowout paper on both sides.
  5. Press side 2 → hot peel immediately.

🛠️ Troubleshooting (Fast Fixes)

Peel feels stuck
Increase pressure slightly and retest. Hot peel with a quick, steady motion.
Smearing
Print one sheet at a time and don’t stack fresh prints (wet ink).
Patchy wood
Confirm the wood is uncoated/porous and perfectly flat for full contact.
Ghosting / unwanted marks
Use fresh blowout paper every press. Don’t reuse sheets.

🧺 Care & Washing (Garments)

  • Turn inside-out before washing.
  • Wash cold on delicate with mild detergent.
  • No bleach and no fabric softeners.
  • Air-dry only (tumble drying not recommended).
  • If ironing: inside-out, low-to-medium heat.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the recommended settings for VersiFlex on cotton?
375°F (190°C) for 30 seconds at high pressure (40 PSI) is a strong starting point. Always test because presses and blanks vary.
Hot peel or cold peel?
For these workflows, hot peel immediately is the standard approach for clean release and consistent bonding.
How do I prevent smearing?
Print one page at a time and avoid stacking prints—VersiFlex ink is wet after printing.
What wood works best?
Use flat, uncoated, porous wood. Softer woods often bond more easily. Avoid sealed or glossy finishes.
Do I really need blowout paper?
Yes—fresh blowout paper each press helps protect the press and reduce ghosting or transfer marks.
What if my exact blank isn’t listed in the software?
Choose the closest match and run a small test press. Minor adjustments are normal across presses and substrate batches.
