Heat Press Settings

Temperature, pressure, and dwell time vary by substrate. As a general reference, cotton workflows typically use 330–365°F and 30–60 second dwell times. Always follow current Sawgrass-published settings for each material — incorrect settings are one of the most common causes of VersiFlex quality issues.

What's included in the Sawgrass VersiFlex Ink Complete Set?

This set includes four factory-sealed 31ml cartridges: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Expander. These are all the cartridges required to run the VersiFlex ink system on a dedicated Sawgrass SG500 or SG1000 VersiFlex printer. No additional ink cartridges are needed for setup.

Why does VersiFlex use CMY + Expander instead of CMYK?

VersiFlex is a different decorating technology than standard sublimation. It uses Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow for full-color output, generating composite blacks through color mixing. The Expander cartridge is a required component of the VersiFlex system that enables multi-surface transfer workflows. It is not optional and cannot be replaced with a black ink cartridge.

Can I install VersiFlex ink in a printer that previously used SubliJet UHD or EasySubli?

No. Sawgrass does not support switching ink systems in a single printer. Installing VersiFlex ink in a printer that has run SubliJet UHD, EasySubli, ChromaBlast, or any other ink system will mix incompatible inks in the lines, reducing print quality and potentially damaging the print head. If you want to run both VersiFlex and SubliJet UHD, you need two separate dedicated printers.

What transfer paper do I need for VersiFlex ink?

Sawgrass recommends using their own VersiFlex Light Transfer Paper for most soft-goods and natural-surface applications. TruePix transfer paper is used for certain compatible coated blanks. Using generic or non-Sawgrass transfer paper with VersiFlex ink is likely to produce poor results. Always follow the current Sawgrass media recommendations for your specific substrate.

Is VersiFlex good for printing on cotton shirts?

Yes — printing on light-colored cotton is one of the primary use cases for VersiFlex. When paired with VersiFlex Light Transfer Paper, the correct color profile in Sawgrass Print Manager, and the right heat press settings for cotton, VersiFlex can produce vibrant results on white and light-colored cotton garments. It cannot print on dark fabrics because it does not include white ink.

Can VersiFlex print on polyester like standard sublimation?

VersiFlex can support compatible coated blanks and certain polyester applications, but SubliJet UHD remains the dedicated Sawgrass ink for classic polyester sublimation production. If your primary business is printing on polyester mugs, shirts, or standard sublimation blanks, SubliJet UHD is the more appropriate ink system.

What software do I need to print with VersiFlex ink?

VersiFlex inks are used with Sawgrass Print Manager (the current Sawgrass printing software, which replaced Sawgrass Print Utility and DesignMate in previous versions). You must select the correct VersiFlex media profile for your substrate in Sawgrass Print Manager before printing. Using the wrong profile is one of the most common causes of color or quality issues.

What is the difference between VersiFlex and SubliJet UHD?

VersiFlex (CMY + Expander) is designed for multi-surface decorating on cotton, fabric, wood, ceramic, slate, and compatible blanks. SubliJet UHD (CMYK) is the standard Sawgrass sublimation ink for polyester and polymer-coated substrates. Both systems use the SG500 and SG1000 printers but require dedicated machines — you cannot switch between them in the same printer.

Is this product final sale? Can I return opened ink?
