VersiFlex Compatibility: Check This Before You Buy

Before ordering Sawgrass VersiFlex ink, confirm that you have the correct printer and workflow. VersiFlex is not a simple cartridge swap for an existing sublimation printer.

Buyer Question Answer Best Buying Decision
Which printers use VersiFlex? Sawgrass SG500 and SG1000 dedicated VersiFlex printers. Use a new or dedicated VersiFlex printer only.
Can I switch my current SubliJet printer to VersiFlex? No. Ink systems are not interchangeable. Buy a dedicated VersiFlex printer or bundle.
Does VersiFlex use black ink? No. It uses Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Expander. Buy the complete CMY + Expander set.
Does VersiFlex print white? No. VersiFlex does not currently use white ink. Best on white, cream, pastel, and light-colored materials.
Do I need transfer paper? Yes, for cotton and natural or uncoated surfaces. Add VersiFlex Light transfer paper to your order.

Important: Do Not Convert a Used Sublimation Printer

Do not install VersiFlex inks into a Sawgrass printer that has already been used with SubliJet UHD, EasySubli, ChromaBlast, or another ink system. Mixing ink systems can damage the printer, contaminate the print head, cause print failures, and may void warranty coverage.

VersiFlex Light Transfer Paper: What to Order With Your Ink

Sawgrass VersiFlex Light transfer paper for cotton and uncoated surfaces

If you want to print on cotton, linen, canvas, wood, ceramics, slate, or other light-colored natural and uncoated surfaces, add VersiFlex Light transfer paper to your order.

VersiFlex Light transfer paper is designed to work with VersiFlex inks and the Expander cartridge. It supports a self-weeding workflow on light surfaces, meaning only the printed design transfers when properly applied.

Buy VersiFlex Light Paper
Material Recommended Paper Buyer Notes
Cotton, linen, canvas, uncoated wood, ceramics, slate VersiFlex Light transfer paper Best for light-colored materials. No pretreatment required.
Polyester apparel and coated sublimation blanks TruePix sublimation paper Use for traditional sublimation products.

What Can You Print With VersiFlex?

VersiFlex is designed for buyers who want to expand their product catalog beyond polyester sublimation blanks.

Light cotton shirts, tote bags, linen, canvas, tea towels, and fabric gifts.

Wood & Natural Materials

Uncoated wood signs, plaques, ornaments, cutting boards, and décor products.

Ceramics, Slate & Stone

How VersiFlex Works

The VersiFlex workflow is designed to be simple for buyers who already understand heat press decoration. The key difference is that VersiFlex Light paper must be pressed while the ink is still wet.

Step 1

Design and Print

Create your design using MySawgrass or Sawgrass Print Utility. Select the correct paper type and color profile, then print onto your chosen VersiFlex-approved transfer paper.

Step 2

Press While Wet

Place the transfer face-down onto your product while the ink is still wet. Apply heat and pressure using a properly calibrated heat press.

Step 3

Hot Peel

Remove the transfer paper immediately after pressing while it is still hot. The carrier paper comes away cleanly, leaving only your design on the product.

Important: Do not let VersiFlex Light prints dry before pressing. The wet-ink transfer process is essential for proper results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buying Sawgrass VersiFlex Ink

What should I buy first for VersiFlex?

Most new users should buy the complete VersiFlex ink set, which includes Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Expander. If printing on cotton, linen, wood, ceramics, or slate, VersiFlex Light transfer paper is also recommended.

Is VersiFlex ink compatible with my SG500 or SG1000?

VersiFlex ink is compatible with dedicated Sawgrass SG500 and SG1000 VersiFlex printers. It should not be installed in a printer previously used with another Sawgrass ink system.

Can I use VersiFlex ink for cotton shirts?

Yes. VersiFlex can be used on light-colored cotton shirts when paired with VersiFlex Light transfer paper and the correct pressing process.

Does VersiFlex print on dark shirts?

VersiFlex does not include white ink, so it is not a direct replacement for DTF on dark shirts. For dark fabrics, a sublimation HTV workflow is required.

Is VersiFlex better than SubliJet UHD?

It depends on what you sell. SubliJet UHD is excellent for traditional sublimation on polyester and coated blanks. VersiFlex is better if you want to expand into cotton, natural fabrics, wood, ceramics, slate, and other non-traditional sublimation surfaces.

Can VersiFlex replace DTF?

VersiFlex can replace some DTF jobs on light-colored garments and natural materials, but it does not replace DTF for dark garments that require white ink.

Do I need a heat press?

Yes. VersiFlex requires a properly calibrated heat press with accurate temperature and pressure. A quality heat press is important for consistent transfer results.
